During this minor, I discovered that I have a lot of trouble coming up with concepts and visualising things. The first project was when I realised this. I had never worked with projections or visual software before, except for Premiere Pro, so this was quite a challenge. I also didn't know what was possible. I went through a lot of vague concepts, which ultimately all led to a dead end. In the end, this became the project I am most proud of, as I really liked the concept, and the execution went exactly as I had hoped.
The process was very chaotic. I went back and forth with my concepts. Hundreds of things went through my head, but nothing developed into a clear projection. After trying many things, I realise in hindsight that simply by looking around me, I formed the clearest concepts.
The concept you see here describes the life of an old television combined with the new media. At first, you see that it really is an old television, but as time passes, it becomes newer and newer media, and the television finds it increasingly difficult to keep up with all the breaking news. This is also noticeable in the audio. At the beginning, the audio is still soothing music, but as newer media appears on the screen, everything gets mixed up and distortion begins to occur, until eventually only a monotonous beep remains.
I asked several people for feedback on my latest concept. At first, I only had music and that beep, but I was advised to make it a lot more powerful by having everything run simultaneously until there was a moment of ‘explosion’. I don't think an ‘explosion’ really fits the concept, so I made it seem a bit more realistic by having everything drop out at once.
